The grasslands of Liteni-Săvădisla Natura 2000 site

The “Litenii-Săvădisla Grasslands” Natura 2000 nature conservation area of European importance is located mainly in the commune of Săvădisla. The protected area of 24 square kilometers, designated in 2016 under the number ROSCI0427, consists of two distinct parts. The first is the border between Săvădisla and Lita, the second is the border between Liteni, Săcel and Băișoara. The grassland area, which is mainly used for livestock grazing and is sometimes wooded, was created primarily to protect four rare species: Yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata), Danube clouded yellow (Colias myrmidone), the Stys-grasshopper (Sophya stysi) Scarce large blue (Maculinea teleius).
In association with these species, there are also five protected habitats in the area.
The main purpose of Natura 2000 protected areas is to protect habitats and species of nature conservation importance in the European Union, while allowing the continuation of traditional, mainly agricultural, activities.
